Note (General): [極楽寺旧境内遺跡・馬場ヶ谷やぐら群要約] 馬場ヶ谷の中ほどに位置する本調査地は、古絵図などから極楽寺の塔頭が存在したと推測されている。本調査地の小谷戸からは、崖裾の達成を伴う地業面が確認され、軸方向を揃えた空間整備が行われていたと考えられる。また、礎石建物跡やそれに伴うと考えられる瓦が出土したことから、本小谷戸は塔頭域であったと推測される。崖裾からはやぐらと前面が一体となって整備され、寺域としての返還を考えることができる。本調査地における中世の造営開始は13世紀後半まで遡る可能性があり、極楽寺中心伽藍とあまり時間差がなく整備が開始された可能性がある。
