Note (General): [後山・畦倉遺跡要約] ８世紀中頃から９世紀頃の製鉄遺構１基と若干数の土坑等を検出した。検出された遺構の集中範囲は直径20ｍ程度だった。製鉄作業は、常緑広葉樹（照葉樹）のコナラ属アカガシ亜属の木炭を一貫して用い、比較的高品質の鉄鉱石を還元するもので、県内の製鉄遺跡に類似する技術で３次にわたる操業を行い、一貫して同様の品質の鉄を生成していたことなどが確認された。なお、県内のほかの製鉄遺構に比べると鉄歩留まりがやや低く、生成鉄は炭素含有量の低い鉄塊の割合が高かったようである。従って、生成された鉄は建築部材などの地金として供給されていた可能性が高い。なお、調査範囲が狭いため断定できないが、精錬鍛冶や鍛造鍛冶の工程の痕跡が確認されない点や、可能性として１時期・１基・１炉しか設営していない点で、諸工程を大規模に展開する瀬田丘陵製鉄遺跡群とは異なっていた可能性がうかがえた。
