[江木下大日遺跡要約] 縄文時代、古墳時代後期、8世紀から10世紀にかけての集落、As-B下の水田などが見つかっている。縄文時代は前期を中心に、一部早期、中期の土器が調査範囲の全域で見られ、花積下層式期、黒浜式期、諸磯ｂ式期の竪穴住居各１棟と、花積下層式期、後期堀之内式の遺物集中地点がある。古墳時代後期の住居は5棟が点在する。全形をうかがいうるものはみな、大きめの、整った方形の平面形を持つ。東壁の中央よりに、住居内に張り出した燃焼部を持つ竈をもつ、この時期の竪穴住居に通有の特徴を備えたものである。出土遺物は土師器の坏、高坏、甕、甑、壺などで、須恵器がほとんど見られない。古代の竪穴住居は８世紀前葉から作られ始め、９世紀後葉に最も多くなる。台地の傾斜にあわせて、南東‐北西方向に広がりを持つ。重複は比較的少ない。８世紀代のものは比較的南寄りに偏在する傾向があり、古代の掘立柱建物が北寄りに多く認められたのとは対照的な配置となっている。遺物は土器類の他、鎌、斧、刀子、釘等の鉄器、石製紡錘車などが出土している。「寺」「主」「石」「矢」や、則天文字ふうの構えを持つ「首」などの墨書土器も出土した。
