Note (General): [仏向貝塚・仏向遺跡・仏向町遺跡要約] 仏向貝塚・仏向遺跡・仏向町遺跡は帷子川右岸の仏向台地上に位置し、縄文時代早期・前期・後期、弥生時代後期〜古墳時代初頭、平安時代、中世・近世以降と複数の時代にわたる遺構・遺物が確認された。縄文時代では、早期の落とし穴、前期の竪穴住居群、後期の貝塚や竪穴住居群など時期的変遷が認められる。特に竪穴住居群の中央にある貝塚は県内でも数少ない後晩期貝塚として著名な仏向貝塚の西端をなすのもであり、後晩期貝塚の形成過程を解明する上で希少な資料である。弥生時代後期〜古墳時代初頭の竪穴住居群は、これまでの周囲の調査で確認されている台地の北側に展開する方形周溝墓に対応する居住域と想定され、該期社会の様相を解明する上で良好な資料である。平安時代における竪穴住居の発見により該期の台地が居住域として、近世以降の竪穴状遺構や畝の確認によりこの地が耕作地として利用された状況を明らかにすることができた。
