Note (General): [四日市遺跡要約] 　西国街道に面する16世紀末・17世紀前葉から19世紀中・後葉の町屋に係る遺構を検出した。調査区内では谷部を埋め立てることにより、屋敷地を平坦にするとともに、街道から離れた南側に拡張していったことがわかった。調査では３面の遺構面を確認した。最下層（基盤層）である第2面では、古いものは16世紀末・17世紀前半の遺構を検出し、造成面（下層）である第１−ｂ面では17世紀後半から18世紀前半、造成面（上層）である第1面では19世紀中・後葉を下限とする遺構が多い。検出した遺構には、18世紀の貯蔵施設（蔵）や19世紀の礎石建物跡、石列溝、炉跡、埋甕、埋桶、井戸などがある。出土遺物は、18世紀後葉から19世紀中・後葉の陶磁器が大量に出土し、幕末・近代初頭における宿場の繁栄や染付椀など陶磁器の普及を窺うことができる。また、近代の遺構には、20世紀（大正時代）の酒造場関連遺構（釜場、井戸、煙突など）がある。遺跡周辺は、近代以降「酒都西条」として酒造場の集中する地区であり、近代前期の地下構造が残存していた良好な資料である。????
