Note (General): [松虫陣屋跡要約] 旧石器時代は終末期の石器群が出土した。縄文時代では礫群集中区が1か所検出され、土器は早期撚糸文系主体であるが、中・後期も見られる。弥生時代から奈良・平安時代は少量の土器が出土したが、遺構は中世城館等の造成によって破壊されたと推測される。中世は、東地区で14〜15世紀前半の台地整形区画（集落）が領主屋敷に取り込まれ、15世紀後半〜16世紀初頭の城郭造成、廃城跡、17世紀初頭の屋敷、近世以降の畑造成等による破壊等の変遷、西地区は城と同時期の屋敷地であること等が明らかとなった。また、千葉県北部の方形城館構造の年代観、地下式坑の築城以前・城陥時・廃城後の形状差、炭化物・土壌等の自然科学分析結果、大量の内耳土鍋による千葉県北部の分類・編年基準資料等の良好な情報を得た。なお、「陣屋」の遺跡名は、近世軍記物の中で戦国期に一時的に設けられたという「松虫の陣場」からつけられたもので近世陣屋と誤解されやすいが、発掘調査で中世城館跡であることが再確認された。しかし、中世末から近世初頭の改造と遺物群からは、幕藩体制成立期の短期間に徳川方の領主が在城したことも推測され、陣屋として使用された可能性もある。
