Note (General): [向新田遺跡要約] 向新田遺跡は印旛沼に注ぐ神崎川に南面する標高22ｍ〜25ｍの台地上に立地する。旧石器時代は6層から9ａ層にかけての石器集中地点が1か所あり、ナイフ形石器等が出土した。縄文時代は陥穴1基･石鏃製作跡1か所が検出されたが、土器の出土がなく、ともに時期は不明である。石鏃以外の石器には、打製石斧･磨製石斧･磨石･敲石･石皿･剥片がある。古墳時代は前期の竪穴住居が83軒検出され、大規模な集落が営まれた。出土遺物のなかに勾玉・管玉繋合文石製垂飾品があるのが注目される。出土土器は草刈2期から?期にかけてのものであり、歴年代はほぼ4世紀代に相当する。本遺跡の周辺地域には、弥生時代末から古墳時代前期の集落が多く存在するが、いずれも中期には続かない。奈良･平安時代は竪穴住居2軒が検出されたのみで、遺構は少ない。
