Note (General): [永田窯跡群要約] 永田窯跡群は奈良･平安時代の須恵器生産遺跡である。養老川中流域東岸の河岸段丘上で標高48ｍ〜50ｍ前後に立地する。今回の調査で須恵器窯が4基検出されたが、灰原3か所･焼土遺構2か所も別の須恵器窯の可能性がある。窯跡数はこれまでの検出分と合わせて22基であるが、30基以上の存在が考えられる。台地平坦面では8世紀後半の竪穴住居2軒が検出された。工房とは断定できないが、永田･不入窯跡の須恵器が検出されており、須恵器製作者集団と関わる遺構である。そのほかに古墳時代前期の竪穴住居が1軒検出されている。出土した須恵器の暦年代は大きく3期に分けられ(後の考察で1〜4期に区分、4期はさらに第1･2小期に2区分)、1期は8世紀中頃前半、2期は8世紀後半､3期は9世紀初頭前後である。永田窯の須恵器杯類の底部切り離し技法はこれまで回転糸切りが知られていたが、今回の調査で最古の1期には回転ヘラ切り技法であったことが判明した。この技法については東海地方から直接伝播したことが考えられる。また永田窯の操業期間は長期で、新しい時期は石川窯の操業時期と重なることが明らかになった。さらに木更津市上名主ヶ谷窯、永田･不入窯、石川窯の製品は完全に分離することが難しく、それらは大きく上総地域産の製品として理解する必要がある。
