Note (General): [北下遺跡（9）〜（12）要約] 下総国分寺・国分尼寺が造営された台地裾部東方、国分川が南流する低地部分で、旧河道が検出され、奈良・平安時代を主体とする数多くの遺物が出土した。川辺では道や溝を、川岸では段整形護岸遺構・階段等を、河道内では湧水点まで掘り込まれ護岸構造を備えたり土器が集積された土坑群を確認した。調査区北部の河床では、台地斜面部に営まれた瓦窯に由来する瓦等の再堆積状況を確認した。軒瓦は国分寺創建期のものが主体である。斜面部の生産遺跡関連遺物は、大型鋳物鋳造用溶解炉片や緑青付着瓦片があった。また、祓に使用されたと考えられる人面墨書土器・斎串・人形などの形代類や供物の可能性のある桃核などの種実類や獣骨類、供物台の天板の可能性のある板、松明の燃えさし等が出土している。出土文字資料も豊富であり、刻字をもつ白木弓・律令国家の地方組織に関わる墨書土器・古代下総国内の広域に点在する郡郷地名の墨書土器・長文墨書土器・仏像や仏面墨画土器・金光明四天王護国之寺の一字「金」銘墨書土器等が出土している。以上、歴史的環境・立地・遺構群の構造・遺物組成からみて、下総国府域の東の境界にあたる川辺において、国府の官人等により執行された儀式・行事の場として、８世紀後半頃から10世紀頃まで長期にわたり維持管理された区域であったと捉えることができる。
