Note (General): [清水遺跡要約] 清水遺跡は鹿島川水系と手繰川水系の分水界となる台地上に立地し、40基の後期古墳が分布する物井古墳群の北西側に位置する。本書では、３基は既報告の古墳の未調査部分、２基は新規に調査された古墳の報告を行った。 4基の円墳はいずれも墳丘地山内に主体部が設けられておらず、削平された墳丘封土内に主体部を設置していたものと思われる。墳丘裾部に主体部が設置される変則的古墳に先行し、6世紀中葉〜後葉頃に築造されたものである。墳形は、2基は円墳、2基は周溝に陸橋部をもつ小型の円墳であった。円墳のうちの1基の周溝内からは埋葬施設が検出され、鉄刀、鉄鏃、刀子、滑石製臼玉が出土した。かつて物井2号墳と命名された１基は円墳等に突出部を付加し、物井古墳群で最大規模の前方後円墳に改変されていたことが明らかとなった。主たる埋葬施設は雲母片岩を使用した箱形石棺が調査区外に位置すると推測され、ほかに前方部に木棺直葬の主体部が１基、周溝内に副次的な埋葬施設が設けられていた。6世紀後葉〜8世紀初頭の遺物が出土し、7世紀前葉〜中葉かけて営まれた２基の前方後円墳に続く、最も新しい時期まで営まれた地域の首長墳と捉えられる。
