Note (General): 本調査地点は周知の遺跡である城山遺跡の範囲に属し、埼玉県志木市柏町３丁目に位置する。　本遺跡は、柳瀬川を北西に望む武蔵野台地北端の野火止台に立地しており、本調査は共同住宅建設に伴う事前調査である。　調査の結果、遺構は縄文時代の土坑、古墳時代後期から平安時代の住居跡・ピット、中世以降の土坑・井戸跡・溝跡・ピットが検出された。遺物は旧石器時代の礫、縄文時代の土器・石器、弥生時代後期から古墳時代前期の土器、古墳時代後期から平安時代の須恵器・土師器・灰釉陶器・金属製品、中世以降の陶器・炻器・磁器・土器・石製品・金属製品・板碑などが出土した。　今回の調査成果は、各時代の遺構・遺物とも、そのほとんどがこれまで城山遺跡の調査成果を追認できる資料である。また、縄文時代に開析していた谷の一部が検出され、埋没していく時期的な経過も、縄文土器の出土傾向により概ね明らかになった。
