Note (General): 中野遺跡は、旧石器時代から近世にかけての複合遺跡である。今回発掘調査を実施した第78地点は、柳瀬川を北に望み、低地に差し掛かる手前の台地の斜面地に位置する。検出された遺構は、中世以降の段切状遺構１箇所、土坑６基、ピット33本である。　段切状遺構については、水平な平場ではなく、若干の傾斜がある面であったが、整地面がやや硬化していたこと、整地面上面が立川ローム第Ⅳ層であったことから、その存在が認識された。さらに基本土層の調査によって、立川ローム第Ⅳ層下部まで消失しており、明らかに人口改変が行われたことが確認された。　10号溝跡は、調査区を南北に走る溝跡であり、西川家文書『一字限地図帳』を参照すると、位置関係、溝の向きから区画溝と考えられる。本溝跡は、『一字限地図帳』が明治15年に作成されたことから、それ以前に築造された溝と考えられる。　11号溝跡は、調査区北側で確認された。本溝跡の覆土が粘土質の水性堆積土であり、古地図や航空写真より周辺に水路が流れていたことから、本溝跡は野火止用水の分水路の一部であると考えられる。
