Note (General): [観音堂遺跡要約] 沼田市からみなかみ町へ入ってすぐの最下位河岸段丘上の遺跡で、推定南北150m東西100mの弥生時代後期環濠の一部（溝）を発見。溝の内外で同時期の住居が35軒みつかり、全体では100軒以上になるものと考えられる。当地域では珍しい周溝墓も検出された。旧国道を挟んで利根川側の小段丘下には政所宮前遺跡があり、ここでも同時期の大集落が調査されている。また、古墳時代の集落は確認されていないが、原田古墳群の分布域内でHr-FP降下前の古墳と、平安時代の集落も検出されている。
