Note (General): 高館遺跡は、高館川の左岸で西に津軽平野を見る非常に眺望の良い場所に位置している。　縄文時代の土器及び石器、弥生時代の土器、擦文土器が散見される。　歴史時代では、発掘調査区域外である館主体部分の表面採集土師器と発掘調査区域から出土したものが同様であること、近接する場所に製鉄遺構があることなどから、本遺跡の性格は岩木山麓の大館森山遺跡と類似するものと思われる。これは、保塞的な機能を持つ集落という性格づけが考えられる。　そして調査の結果は、次のように要約できよう。（1）多数を占める遺構は柱列を持つ住居跡であり、幾度かの切り合いがみられる。（2）柱列を持つ住居跡と、壁下周溝を持つ住居跡では時間的な差を有する。即ち、柱列を持つ住居跡が壁下周溝を持つ住居跡よりも新しい。（3）壁下周溝を持つ住居跡から、須恵器の出土は非常に少ない。坏形土師器は、外面に強いろくろ調整を施した痕跡があり、小型甕には、ろくろ使用で糸切底を有するものである。（4）柱列を持つ住居跡は、羽釜や土師器（把手付も含む）、多量の炭化穀物、飯状炭化物、木器、鉄製農具及び日常用具等を出土している。（5）柱列を持つ住居跡のかまどは、西壁及び東壁に構築され煙道が極めて短かいものである。（6）柱列を持ちかまどを有する住居跡から舶来の白磁片が出土したが年代は12世紀に推定された。
