Note (General): 川原平（１）遺跡は西目屋村役場から南西約９㎞に位置し、岩木川右岸の河成段丘上に立地する。　本書は川原平（１）遺跡に関するこれまでの発掘調査成果をまとめた最終報告書である。発掘調査は2003・2011・2013~2015年度に実施され、建物跡・土坑・石棺状配石・配石遺構・土器埋設遺構・焼土遺構などの遺構が検出されている。また、盛土遺構や捨場からは、膨大な量の遺物が出土している。全調査年度における遺物箱数は、7457箱である。　本遺跡では、縄文時代中期後葉と後期後葉～晩期後葉の集落跡が確認された。特に後期後葉～晩期後葉の時期には、岩木川上流域における中心的な集落跡であったと考えられる。集落の全体像としては、居住域の周囲に廃棄域、居住域・廃棄域と別地点に墓域が形成されていることが明らかとなった。　土器は津軽地域における後期後葉～晩期編年の基準資料となる。石器は後期後葉～晩期の組成を知るための良好な資料である。西捨場で出土した籃胎漆器や堅櫛などの漆製品、箆形木製品や柱材などの木製品は、樹木・植物素材利用のあり方を知るうえで貴重な資料である。生漆が付着した土器や漆濾し布、赤色顔料の精製に関わる土器や石器は、集落内で漆製品が製作されていたことを示す資料である。　また、多くの自然科学分析を実施し、通常の遺物の観察からだけでは引き出せない、集落が営まれた当時の周辺環境・食生活などの知見を得ることができた。
