Note (General): 沢目遺跡は、旧名取川や旧増田川によって形成された自然堤防上に立地する遺跡である。　発掘調査の結果、弥生時代、古墳時代、近世頃の遺構・遺跡が発見された。　基本層Ⅳ・Ⅴ層からは、多くの弥生土器や石器が出土した。出土土器は、中期前葉の原式～中期前葉の桝形（囲）式の時期で、周辺地域から２次的な移動によって運ばれてきたことが考えられた。石器には、仙台平野では類例の少ない抉入り柱状片刃石斧が含まれていた。　古墳時代後期では、居住域（竪穴住居跡２軒）が検出されており、その年代は６世紀末葉～７世紀前半であった。周辺に隣接する上余田・清水遺跡と多々共通する点が認められ、関東系土師器の導入を契機として、それらが一体となった大規模な集落群を形成していることが明らかとなった。　このほか、近世頃と推定される屋敷と推定される屋敷に伴う掘立柱建物跡とそれを囲む堀跡が検出された。
