Note (General): 四本松城跡は、標高316.2m、付近の低地との比高差100ｍはどの山頂および尾根上に立地している山城で、まさに天然の要害である。東・北・南の三方向は口太川と急崖、西方向は谷と大きな堀切で遮断されて独立丘陵化が意図されている。城の規模は東西400ｍ、南北600ｍほどの菱形状を呈し、本郭（本丸）から三方向に尾根が延びている。東尾根は堀切で切断され、さらにその先端にある堀切を区画として「東壇の山」があり、物見に適した郭である。北の尾根もまた堀切によって区画されている。　桑園造成中に土器などが発見されたことから、緊急の発掘調査を実施した。炭化した角材や多量の竹材が発見され、焼失した建物跡と考えられた。　出土遺物は、多量のかわらけ、灯明皿、擂鉢、火鉢、甕、釘などである。かわらけの坏は室町時代の食器類と考えられ、口径の大きさで４つに分類できる。大は25㎝、中は20㎝、小は16㎝、極小は13㎝程度で、用途による形態の差であろう。
