Note (General): 雷下遺跡は，道免き谷津遺跡の開口部付近に位置する縄文時代早期後葉の貝層と自然貝層を伴う低地遺跡である。有楽町海進期に形成された波食台上に立地し，波食台を侵食する埋没谷を埋積するように貝層が形成されていた。貝層は第９貝層〜第１階層の９層からなり，沖積層が最も厚く堆積する埋没谷内部に位置する雷下遺跡(７)では，標高約２ｍ〜ー2.5ｍの位置に間層を夾在しながら約4.5ｍの厚さで堆積しており，貝層やその周縁部からは茅山上層式〜下沼部式を主体とする条痕文系土器や敲石類を主体とする礫石器が出土したほか，丸木舟や棒状木製品，編組製品，骨角歯牙貝製品や動植物遺体などの低地遺跡を特徴付ける貴重な資料が出土した。　貝層から採取した試料の年代測定からは，約10000年間の時間幅を持って連綿と形成されたことが判明している。また，珪藻や微小貝類の分析をはじめとする自然科学分析から，貝層の堆積環境について，下位から上位へ向けて海水泥質干潟環境から汽水泥質干潟環境へ推移し，局所的には貝殻廃棄の場が潮間帯上部〜飛沫帯にあった可能性を指摘した。　貝層の大半は，推定された堆積環境に調和するように沿岸流による二次堆積の様相を呈していいるが，唯一，貝層分布北西端（北側微高地）においてのみプライマリーな状態の貝層（第１貝層・第５貝層）が保存されており，周辺からは灰・炭化物集中地点（焚き火跡）や集石遺構が密集して検出された。また，本地点の第５貝層や特に灰・炭化物集中地点が密集する(９)SX050からは，解剖学的位置を保持した周産期人骨や幼児下肢骨が検出されたほか，線刻文様のある骨角歯牙製品の優品などが出土しており，低地での生業に関わる痕跡だけでなく，埋葬や埋納を示唆する貴重な資料が得られた。
