Note (General): 神後田遺跡は島根県松江市浜乃木五丁目に所在する。本遺跡は平成29 年の試掘調査によって発見され、平成29 年～令和2 年度にかけて、遺跡の詳細な情報を得ることを目的とし発掘調査を実施した。調査の結果、弥生時代前期末～中期初頭の環壕・黒曜石集石土坑、弥生時代後期前半の竪穴建物2 棟、中近世の方形大溝を検出した。本遺跡の南約500 ｍ地点の丘陵には国史跡田和山遺跡が存在する。出雲地域最大規模の三重環壕を有しており、環壕内部に居住空間が認められない点から、日本列島における一般的な弥生時代の環濠集落とは特異な性格であると位置付けられている。本報告の神後田遺跡で検出された環壕は田和山遺跡の初期段階の環壕と同時期であることがわかった。このことから、弥生時代前期に両者2 つの環壕が並立し存在していたことが判明し、相互の有機的な関係性が浮かび上がることとなった。両遺跡が所在する乃木地域は宍道湖を経由した東西交易ルートの玄関口にあたり、交通の要所に存在する神後田遺跡、田和山遺跡は、出雲地域における弥生時代の集落遺跡を考えるうえで重要な意義を有するものといえる。
