Note (General): 宮平遺跡は、福島県中通り地方の南端に位置する矢祭町に所在し、久慈川支流の小田川に面した低位段丘面に立地している。　調査の結果、流路跡１条、土坑１基、焼土遺構２基、小穴７基が確認され、縄文時代及び古墳・奈良・平安時代の遺物が出土した。　なかでも縄文時代早期・後期の土器がまとまって出土している。　縄文時代早期の遺物は遺構外からまとまって出土した。　早期前葉の撚糸文系土器や、中葉～後葉にかけての沈線文系土器や条痕文系土器が出土しており、関東地方に分布する野島式や鵜ヶ島台式といった土器も確認されている。　この時期は町内で最も遺跡数が多く、宮平遺跡周辺にも同時期の遺跡が複数所在することから、本遺跡も活動拠点のひとつであったとみられる。　縄文時代後期の遺物は流路跡からまとまって出土しており、今回の調査で出土した遺物の主体となっている。　後期中葉の加曾利B 式や、後葉の瘤付土器・曽谷式・安行式などが出土した。　特に曽谷式や安行式といった関東地方に分布する土器がまとまって出土しており、東北地方最南端という矢祭町の地理的環境を反映したものと考えられる。　また、古墳時代前期のＳ字甕の破片が出土しており、町内では初めての事例である。
