Note (General): 桜神明社古墳は、笠寺台地上に立地する鳥栖八剣社古墳、鳥栖神明社古墳と共に盟主的古墳と考えられている。隣接する名古屋鉄道名古屋本線においては桜駅〜本星崎駅間の連続立体交差事業の事業化が検討されており、仮線の一部が桜神明社境内にかかることが想定され、工事による影響が懸念されていた。そのため、古墳の形状や規模を把握することを目的として調査を実施した。　直径約 42 ｍの規模を有すること、葺石や埴輪の存在など新たな知見を得たほか、墳丘の北側に存在する鉤形の溝（濠）は古墳と関連のないことが判明した。
