Note (General): 小日向一丁目北遺跡は、茗荷谷を西側方面にあがった台地上に位置する江戸時代を中心とする遺跡である。江戸城を南に臨む小高い台地上とその周辺には武家地・寺社地・大名屋敷など集中していた。　また、台地縁辺の入り組んだ地形から、周辺の遺跡からは旧石器時代・縄文時代・古墳時代前期・奈良・平安時代の遺構・遺物が検出されている。本遺跡は、後世の開発などによって地面が攪乱されていることもあり。古い時代の遺物は数点しか出土していないが、江戸時代の遺構・遺物はまとまって出土した。　遺物は18 世紀中ごろのものが多く、そのころ屋敷替えを頻繁に行っていたことを物語っている。
