Note (General): 免田町（現　あさぎり町）において「クマソ復権」による町おこしが推進されるなか、本目遺跡では、1994年から1995年にかけて、5次にわたる発掘調査が行われた。その結果、弥生時代後期から古墳時代前期までの土壙墓41基・木棺墓16基・墳丘墓1基・壺棺1・小土坑11・地下式板石積石室墓2基の他、重弧文長頸壺を含む多数の土器、破鏡1、管玉1、ガラス小玉18、鉄剣1、鉄鏃16が出土。その後、墳丘墓とその周辺地区（第3～5次調査）の保存が決定し、1996年11月に町指定史跡となり、現在に至る。　発掘調査時より、本目遺跡に関連する各事業が免田町にて開催され、それらの取組みは2003年に免田町を含む5町村が合併しあさぎり町となった現在までも、佐古和枝氏（関西外国語大学）をはじめ発掘調査団のメンバーで構成される本目遺跡研究会の協力を受け、継続されてきた。本報告書はこれまでの本目遺跡のあゆみと遺跡のもつ価値について、研究者を含む関係者の様々な視点から見つめなおすものである。
