Note (General): 本調査区は平城京左京四条六坊八坪の北東端かつ、中世から近世を中心とした奈良町遺跡に当たる。確実な土地利用は11～12世紀の整地層であるが、出土遺物が小片のため断定できないが、古代に遡る可能性がある掘立柱建物１基を検出している。また、埴輪が出土しており、周辺には古墳があったことも想定される。12～14世紀には調査区東半では整地層と共に土坑や溝が検出している。15世紀～17世紀前半には全面的に遺構が展開し、掘立柱建物２基、溝、井戸、土坑などを検出した。東西方向に走る溝は南接する率川神社との現在の境界より北側に位置しており、当時はその敷地範囲が異なっていたことが想定される。当該期には大量の鉄滓や、加工痕がある骨、漆付不明製品などがあり、多様な生産活動が行われていたものと思われる。17世紀後半以降は遺物・遺構が少なくなり、大規模な土地造成がなされたものと考えられる。
