Note (General): 西原大塚遺跡は、市内最大規模の遺跡で、旧石器時代～近世・近代にかけての複合遺跡である。　今回の報告の主な遺構では、縄文時代の遺構として、第180地点から前期後葉の黒浜期の住居跡１軒、182地点から中期中葉の勝坂式期の住居跡１軒が検出された。20J（勝坂期）は以前に区画整理第17・39地点で調査されており、今回の調査で炉体土器が検出された。　弥生時代後期～古墳時代前期の遺構としては、住居跡が第180地点から12軒、第182地点から4軒、第183地点から1軒、第184地点から２軒検出された。第180地点では156㎡の調査区範囲から住居跡12軒が重複して検出されており、密な住居跡の分布を示す。576Y からは、赤色砂利層の下から土器埋納土坑が検出され、市内初の事例となった。また、571Y・576Y の覆土中から、タタキ成形痕がある甕形土器の破片が出土した。
