Note (General): 城山遺跡は志木市柏町３丁目を中心とした中世の「柏の城」で知られる遺跡である。旧石器時代から縄文時代、弥生時代後期ら古墳時代前期、古墳時代後期から奈良・平安時代、中世から近世に至る複合遺跡として知られている。　今回の調査地点は城山遺跡の北東部に位置している。検出された遺構は縄文時代、古墳時代後期から奈良・平安時代、中世から近世と、幅広い時期の遺構・遺物が確認されている。　縄文時代では中期加曽利Ｅ式期の土坑などが調査され、後期の遺物が主体となって出土しており、わずかではあるが晩期の遺物も検出されている。　古墳時代後期の土坑や、内径約 15 ｍの半円形の溝跡が検出されており、溝跡は古墳の周溝の可能性がある。その他、平安時代の住居跡２軒、掘立柱建築遺構 1 棟、中世以降では井戸跡７基、溝跡１条、掘立柱建築遺構１棟、土坑 68 基などが調査され、井戸跡からは中世から近世初頭にかけての鋳造関連作業に伴う炉壁や鉄製品が出土しており、「柏の城」の内部構成を考える上で興味深い成果が得られた。
