Note (General): 本調査地点は周知の遺跡である城山遺跡の範囲に属し、埼玉県志木市柏町３丁目に位置する。　本遺跡は、柳瀬川を北西に望む武蔵野台地北東端の野火止台に立地しており、本調査は、共同住宅建設に伴う事前調査である。　調査の結果、遺構は、旧石器時代の石器集中地点、縄文時代の土坑、古墳時代後期～平安時代の住居跡・土坑・ピット、中世以降の土坑・井戸跡・溝跡・ピットが検出された。遺物は、旧石器時代の石器・礫、縄文時代の土器・石器、弥生時代後期～古墳時代前期の土器、古墳時代後期～平安時代の須恵器・土師器・灰釉陶器・石器・金属製品、中世以降の陶器・炻器・磁器・土器・石器・金属製品・板碑・瓦などが出土した。　今回の調査成果は、各時代の遺構や遺物とも、そのほとんどがこれまでの城山遺跡の調査成果を追認できる資料である。ただし、中世以降の遺構で、今回新たに粘土槨が形成された墓壙や、これまで「いもあな」・「いもびつ」とされてきた土坑の性格の再検討を必要とする資料など、重要な資料も得られた。
