Note (General): 道場・中村遺跡では、弥生時代の竪穴建物１１棟、貯蔵を目的とする土杭群、平安時代～中世の掘立柱建物１棟、溝、墓、土杭、柱穴などを検出した。竪穴建物は弥生時代中期前半及び後期後半と時期幅が認められる。袋状の断面を呈する土杭群は貯蔵用と推定され、調査区西側は弥生時代の中期・後期の集落域であったことが明らかとなった。　出土した弥生土器は北九州・下関、北部九州から瀬戸内西部地域、山口県東部にかけての特徴を合わせ持つ独特の様相を呈する。　古代から中世にかけては、掘立柱建物、溝、墓、土杭、柱穴から土師器・輸入陶磁器・瓦質土器などが検出された。中世には、大内氏に仕える地頭職である岡部氏の館跡が本郷川対岸の堀の内遺跡に推定されており、それらとの関係が注目される。中でも、墓から出土した青磁・白磁などの高級輸入陶磁器が副葬品として埋葬されている点などは、有力層の存在を推定させる。また、岩永本郷地区は赤間関街道・肥中街道との結節点にある点などからも、交通の要衝として栄えたことが推定される。
