Note (General): 日南郷遺跡は、夜ノ森台地と呼ばれる河岸段丘面上に立地する遺跡である。今回、発掘調査を実施した2次調査区は、遺跡北東部にあたる。馬蹄型盛土が施された３軒の竪穴住居跡は、近接した位置関係にあり、また主軸方向も揃っている。張り出しではないが、馬蹄型盛土の内部に貯蔵穴を伴うものも認められた。張り出し貯蔵穴及び類似貯蔵穴の性格については、新興集落等の関連性が指摘されており、このことから、当該集落についても新地開発で入植した人々の居住場であった可能性がある。　高津戸館跡は、阿武隈高地東縁の富岡丘陵に立地する遺跡である、今回、発掘調査を実施した箇所は、遺跡南西部で、東西に延びる土塁・堀が現況で確認できる一面である。堀の両岸に掘削土をかき揚げて土塁としている。北側の土塁の方が高いことから、南方を意識した防御施設の可能性がある。高津戸館跡の周辺は、中世において相馬氏領と岩城氏領の境界付近であり、緊張関係にあった箇所である。
