Note (General): 常楽寺柿木田古墳群は，出雲平野西南部の神西湖南岸地域に位置し，神西湖に注ぐ常楽寺川と奥ノ谷川が合流する地点の東岸の丘陵上に立地する。常楽寺柿木田１号墳は，これまでの調査によって最大で全長約35ｍの前方後円墳であり，古墳時代前期末から中期初頭頃に築造された可能性が確認されている。　今回の常楽寺柿木田1号墳における主体部の内容確認調査では，後円部上に築かれた第１～３主体部の内部構造や構築状況を把握した。第１～３主体部の埋葬施設は、いずれも組合式木棺であったと想定される。第１主体部の北側には盛土上に礫敷が設けられ，それらの下部に主体部の墓坑と連結する溝が確認された。第２主体部では，墓坑中央付近の床面上に扁平な円礫が整然と敷かれており、木棺内に礫敷が展開する様相が具体的に明らかになった。また第１・２主体部は，円礫による石枕が設けられていたことを確認した。　埋葬施設である木棺内への礫敷は，これまで日本海沿岸の島根半島東部や近畿地方北部，九州地方北部などで集中的に確認されている。常楽寺柿木田１号墳が所在する神西湖南岸地域は，当時日本海とつながる入江であった神西湖を舞台とした水上交通によって日本海沿岸の他地域との交流が盛んであった様子が読み取れる。
