Note (General): 本遺跡は武蔵野台地の武蔵野面上、仙川の源流域に立地し、小金井市本町四丁目 7 番地内、東京都住宅供給公社小金井本町住宅敷地内に所在する。調査地点は仙川の谷間にあたる。仙川は多摩川の名残川で、約 2 万 6 千年～ 2 万 2 千年前には水量が減少し、谷の埋積が始まった。埋積が進んだ以降も、地下水等による長期的な水の影響を受けており、比較的低湿な環境であったと推測される。　本調査では縄文時代の土坑や集石、土器、石器と、近世および近代の溝状遺構、ピット、陶磁器類などが確認された。縄文時代の遺物は全て同層位から検出され、縄文時代前期後半（諸磯 c 式）と中期後葉（加曽利 E 式）の異なる土器がまとまって出土したことから、遺物は谷上から二次堆積によってもたらされた可能性が高い。よって谷上の縁辺部や平坦部にも遺跡範囲が広がることが推測される。　近世および近代の遺構については、大半が畝間溝で、一部に旧道に関連する溝状遺構が確認された。畝間溝の一部からは宝永 4 年（1707）の富士山噴火の際の火山灰が検出され、元禄 9年（1696）頃の小金井村分水の設置後、間もなく耕作地として使用されていたことが分かった。また明治 8 年（1875）「貫井村全図」記載の「小金井村境界通」に平行・隣接する溝も検出され、区画溝や境堀など、村境あるいは境界道に関連する遺構と思われる。
