Note (General): 上信越山地の南側にあたる山間地、利根川水系吾妻川流域に位置する岩陰遺跡である。縄文時代から歴史時代にわたって利用された複合遺跡であるが、縄文時代早期の遺物出土量がとくに多く、早期中葉の押型文期・沈線文期および早期後葉の条痕文期に活発な利用痕跡がみられる。前期の出土量も比較的多い。岩陰部の調査では、灰質土中から早期後葉および前期前半の埋葬人骨約20 個体が密集して出土し、岩陰内が集団墓として利用されていた状況が明らかとなった。岩陰前面の緩斜面には、動物骨・植物種子などの生活廃棄物が豊富に保存された灰質褐色土が堆積する。第5 次調査ではこの灰質褐色土の調査に着手し、厚さ約1.5m、7 層からなる層序を確認するとともに、放射性炭素年代測定により押型文期の約200～300年間に形成された堆積物であることを確認した。本書は、既刊の『居家以岩陰遺跡Ⅲ　第４次・第５次発掘調査報告書』（2023年2月28日、國學院大學文学部考古学研究室発行）の第６章第４節「動物遺存体」の補遺・訂正を別冊として刊行するものである。当該調査次の動物遺存体に関する分類同定は、本書をもって正式報告とする。
