- 出版タイプ： NA越智遺跡は貝吹山南麓の尾根先端に位置し、越智谷と称される平野部に南面している。遺跡周辺は、『万葉集』では「越智野」などと称された地域ともされ、天皇や皇子などの墓とされる終末期古墳が分布している。今回の発掘調査では、奈良時代に遡る落ち込み、中世の井戸・土坑・ピット、中～近世の溝が検出された。特に、落ち込みからは大量の奈良時代の遺物が出土し、「越」「器」などと記された墨書土器、製塩土器、曲物・柄杓・独楽状未製品・燃えさしなどの木製品が出土した。落ち込みは、幅24 ｍ、深さ２ｍ以上の規模を有し、グライ化が顕著であることから、溜池などの可能性もあるが全容は不明である。出土遺物から官 衙的な性格も想定されるが、遺構の様相が明確ではないことから、遺跡の性格・評価を確定するには時期尚早と思われる。しかしながら、本遺跡が所在する大和盆地南部では奈良時代の遺跡が少ないことから、当時の交通路、国府などとの関係を考える上で貴重な成果である。
