Note (General): 尼塚古墳は、古墳時代中期の円墳として、周知されている。大正15 年、鳴門市大津西小学校改築の際に校地の盛土用に墳丘の土が使われてしまい、その姿を消した。平成15 年度、徳島県埋蔵文化財センターによる発掘調査並びに富山大学による地中レーダー探査において、墳丘ラインをはじめ、墳丘残土や周濠が残存していることが判った。本調査は、用水路改修工事に伴い、古墳の一部が開発の影響で破壊されることが判ったため、調査を実施した。調査の結果、墳丘残土が残存していないものの葺石や基底部列石、周濠を確認した。周濠からは、円筒埴輪と朝顔形埴輪が一括して出土した。この度の調査は、44 ㎡と開発により影響のある区域のごく限られた小規模な調査であったため、本書において全容を把握したわけではない。しかし、朝顔形埴輪について過去の調査で口頚部中間が確認されているが、この度の調査では口縁端部を含む口頚部上半の破片が出土した。また、調査地は墳丘たる土が削平され、その後耕作により幾度なく開墾を受けているものの、周濠埋土の全損には至っておらず、その埋土に遺物が良質に残存していることが判った。
