根雨原土手下タ遺跡は、鳥取県西伯郡伯耆町根雨原に位置し、日野川中流域右岸の北東から南西へのびる標高115ｍの扇状地の扇端に立地する。　今回の調査では、縄文時代後期～晩期と推定される集石遺構14基、土坑3基、列石遺跡1基を検出した。　集石遺構1と列石遺構は祭祀的性格が窺え、いずれも調査地南東側の1区で検出されている。この他の集石遺構は、調査地の南西側を蛇行する旧河道跡を避けて形成されており、いずれも礫に被熱痕跡やタール状の付着物が認められないことと、炭化物が出土していないことから、炉跡としての性格は窺えない。　出土遺物は、縄文時代前期から弥生時代前期のものがあるが、このうち縄文時代後期から晩期にかけてのものが主体となる。縄文時代後期の土器は、調査地中央の2・3・4区から多く出土し、晩期の突帯文土器は、調査区北西側の5区から多く出土する傾向にある。黒曜石製の製品は数少ないが、黒曜石の剥片が一定量出土していることから、この地で石器製作を行っていたと考えられる。また、旧石器時代の遺物の有無を確認するために部分的にロームの漸移層及びローム層の調査を行ったが、遺物は確認できなかった。　調査の最終段階で、調査地の堆積状況を確認するために重機により3ケ所で深掘りを行った結果、礫を多く含むローム層の直下層は砂や砂利が卓越した層が堆積し、その下には粗粒砂層が確認され、ローム層堆積以前は、旧河道であったと推測される。
