立位や歩行などの移動能力には下肢筋力、体幹機能、バランス機能などが重要と報告されており、その改善には多角的な介入が重要である。特にヒトは直立二足歩行を獲得したため、他の哺乳類より抗重力性とバランス性が必要となる。その中で、体幹は全ての動作の源と考えられており、上肢運動の場合は0.03秒前から、下肢運動の場合は0.11秒前から腹横筋が他の筋に先立って働き体幹を安定させている。体幹機能を評価する方法は数々存在するが、直立二足歩行と同肢位で体幹に対して鉛直方向への抗重力性とバランス性を評価しながら、その動作を想定して片側を評価する方法は渉猟した範囲では得られなかった。そこで本研究の目的は、体幹機能評価方法に残る課題の解決策として、新たな体幹機能評価方法を考案し、その妥当性を検討していき、中でも我が国に多い人工膝関節全置換術（以下、TKA）症例のリハビリテーションの一つとして応用できるのかを検討することとした。結果、本研究を通じて、考案した体幹機能評価方法は再現性と妥当性を有しており、TKA後のリハビリテーションの一つとして応用できる可能性が明らかとなった。
