正常細胞周期ではゲノムの複製に先行して中心体（centrosome）が複製され、染色体の分離、分配に関与するが、癌細胞では中心体複製の異常によって、しばしば染色体の多重化が観察され、その結果染色体不均等分配とゲノム不安定性が生じると考えられている。中心体複製に重要な働きをするSHD1分子を同定し、この分子の中心体複製制御機構を解析することで、細胞癌化に関連する新規中心体複製メカニズムの一端を明らかにすることを目指した。
