生態系の汚染と深刻な影響が懸念される人工化学物質には、ダイオキシンやポリ塩化ビフェニル(PCB)、DDTに代表される有機塩素化合物や多環芳香族炭化水素(PAHs)などの「従来型」と、最近環境中から初めて検出され、その汚染の存在が明らかになった「新規型」の二種類に大別できる。前者は、 1970年代以降の環境対策が功を奏し、その汚染規模は縮小傾向にあるが、後者は環境中の濃度が1990年代以降上昇し続けており、合成香料はその代表的な存在といえる。本研究費の補助により、これまでに合成香料のHHCB, AHTNによる「生物濃縮の態様」・「経年変動」・「地球規模の移動拡散性」を明らかにしてきた。今年度は日本を含むアジア産二枚貝を用いて、アジア域の合成香料による汚染現状についてモニタリング調査を行った。
