世界三大感染症の一つであるAIDS は、現在世界で3,300 万人の感染者がおり、年間新たに250 万人が感染し、210 万人が死亡している。また、本邦においてもHIV-1感染者は増加の一途をたどっている。近年、新たな抗HIV-1 薬の開発と多剤併用療法の普及によりHIV-1 感染者の予後は劇的に改善している。しかしながら、現在使用されている抗HIV-1 薬はHIV-1 の生活環に有効なものであり、潜伏感染には全く効果がない。そのため、薬剤によるHIV-1 の生体内からの完全な排除は極めて困難であり、異なる作用機所を有する新たな抗HIV-1 薬の開発が望まれる。漢方薬は比較的副作用が少なく長期投与が可能なことから、現在様々な疾患に使われている。抗HIV-1効果についてもいくつかの知見が得られているが臨床応用には至っていない。そこで本研究においては、様々な漢方薬のHIV-1潜伏感染細胞に対する効果について解析した。
