積分で表示される解をもつような線形微分方程式は，線形微分方程式の中でも特別な良いクラスをなしている．そのクラスの方程式の研究は，積分表示における積分領域の研究に帰着され，関数としての解析的性質と積分領域の幾何学的性質の対応を記述するのが基本的な問題となる．rigidと呼ばれるさらに良い部分クラスの方程式に対して，その対応が記述された．また方程式をなるべく多くの変数の方程式系に拡張すること（延長）により，良いクラスに属する方程式の判定法の新しい可能性を見出した．
