環境ホルモンのプロトタイプであるジエチルスチルベストロールを妊娠マウスに暴露すると生まれた仔マウスは学習障害を起こす。この学習障害を修復させる環境因子を探索したところ、通常の飼育ケージより広いケージに遊具を配置したエンリッチな環境が学習障害の修復に必須であることがわかった。このエンリッチ環境による修復効果の分子機構を解明するためプロテオミクスの手法などを用いて解析したところ、神経活動に関与する数種の脳内分子がエンリッチ環境による修復効果に何らかの形で関与する可能性が示唆された。
