この研究課題は、ある企業の会計上の数値がどのように変化していくかを記述する方程式にもとづいて、その企業の時価総額を算出するモデルを構築することを目的としていた。そこで、1期前の利益と1期前の自己資本によって当期の利益の平均が決まるモデルと、当期の利益と1期前の自己資本で当期の配当の平均が決まるモデルを考え、これらのモデルにもとづいて株式時価総額を算出した。この結果は、利益をキャッシュ・フローとそうでない部分（アクルーアル）に分解して、さらに精緻化することが可能である。
