ヒト変形性関節症（OA）軟骨組織において高発現するRECK分子の発現調節と機能の解明に取り組んだ。OAの病態上重要と考えられる各種サイトカインによるRECKの発現調節を検討したところ、IGF-1が発現促進因子、IL-1とTNF-αが発現抑制因子であることがわかった。RECKの機能についてsiRNA実験を行い調べたところ、RECKはOA軟骨細胞とマトリックスの相互作用を変化させ、細胞遊走を抑制し、細胞増殖を促進する作用を持つことが明らかになり、OAにおける軟骨の不完全再生に関与している可能性が示唆された。
