イオンチャネル型グルタミン酸受容体の機能異常が孤発性筋萎縮性側索硬化症の発症要因であるという仮説から、AMPA受容体のイオン選択透過性が生じる原因の解明と、人工的にイオン透過性を変化させた病体モデルの作成を行った。その結果、in vitro系での病態モデル系および、遺伝子改変マウスの作成に成功し、疾患治療研究への足がかりが出来た。
