RNA結合蛋白質Musashi2(Msi2)の遺伝子欠損マウスは、知覚神経障害をきたし、その原因が標的遺伝子の一つである神経軸索進展促進因子Pleiotrophin(Ptn)の減少によることが明らかになった。また末梢神経損傷後の回復過程で、Msi2遺伝子欠損マウスは標的のPtnの発現上昇が少なく、機能回復が遅延することが分かった。末梢神経障害後に上昇するMsi2 はPtnの発現を促進し、触覚や運動機能回復のために重要な役割を担っていることが示された。
