Glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)プロモータ下にfirefly luciferase (fluc)を発現するマウスを使用した坐骨神経損傷モデルにおいてシュワン細胞がGFAPを発現し、再髄鞘化に寄与していた。またCox2プロモータ下にflucを発現するマウスを用いた痛みの可視化実験では、神経圧挫モデルにおいて損傷部から末梢部にかけてCox2の発現が確認できた。また神経損傷部位の炎症部位の特定に蛍光プローブを用いることで、その可視化が可能であった。以上のように神経損傷における分子画像診断法は今後の臨床応用も含め極めて重要な手法の一つである。
