脳や胎盤では他臓器に比べ血液と臓器間での物質交換が厳密に制御されており、その物質交換の場は「関門」と呼ばれる。この関門が破綻すると毒性物質の蓄積や組織液の滲出により重篤な場合には臓器不全となる。本研究ではこの関門の形成、維持、破綻の機序を解明することを目的とした。本研究により関門構造の維持に重要な関門の分解を抑制する成分を見出した。また関門を構成する血管部の形成機構を一部明らかにした。これらの成果により、関門が破綻した病態に対する薬物治療法の開発等に応用が期待される。
