アルドステロンは、ミネラルコルチコイド受容体(MR)を介して血液中のナトリウムやカリウムの調節をするが、食塩摂取量が過剰になると血管周囲に炎症をおこして脳卒中、心筋梗塞などの心血管疾患を惹起する。本研究の結果、MRの脱SUMO化修飾によりアルドステロン感受性が数倍に亢進させることが示されたことから、MRの脱SUMO化は血中アルドステロン濃度が正常であっても、高血圧や心血管疾患のリスクを高めることが示唆された。
