本研究では、広く普及しているライナック放射線治療装置を用いた胸部の放射線治療の場合には、最適な線量分布を得るためにはどのようなエネルギー、照射野形状、リーフマージンが必要かという臨床に直結した問題を、多数の臨床データのモンテカルロ・シミュレーションと照射実験にて詳細に評価することを目的とした。多数の臨床例からCT データを収集し、実際の条件でモンテカルロ・シミュレーションをおこなう。特に、適切なリーフマージンと照射野形状、あるいはIMRTなどの技法についてシミュレーションシステムを用いることにより解明した。
