本研究では、日本国内の大学ならびに研究機関の図書館が所蔵する英国初期刊本（1473-1600）に関して、所蔵情報の収集と書誌学的調査を行った。この結果、国内には220点以上もの英国初期刊本が所蔵されていることが、初めて明らかとなった。また各蔵書について実際に調査を行い、書物の著者名、タイトル、出版情報、さらには各コピーに特徴的な製本、書き込み、来歴の有無などの情報を記録し、本邦所在の英国初期刊本目録制作の基盤を整備した。
